Moroccan
style is basically an evolution of Berber architecture and
has heavily and over centuries influenced the Hispanic-Moorish
style in southern Spain and northern Morocco.
Decorative surfaces are essential to the Moroccan traditional
houses every inner wall, floor and ceiling is sheathed in
colour and ornaments. The walls and ceilings are covered
with mosaics, sculpted plaster and painted wood. Floors
are covered with mosaic tiles. Sculpted plaster is very
often used around doors and windows, on the inside edges
of arches and for the capitals. The courtyard is paved with
white or grey flagstones or terracotta and inside the courtyard
either a fountain richly decorated in the centre with mosaic
geometrical motifs creates a jewelled effect or a garden.
